This was super interesting! It was a deep dive into the philosophy of time. The class was cut into two sections, the first being about the theory of time, and the second being about the phenomenology of how we/whether we feel the passage time. I was really stoked on the mark that I got from this class despite the lecturer saying they’re a pretty hard marker (I got the impression they were ‘hard’ not because of anything about themselves but because they teach fairly technical subjects and students’ papers often aren’t very clear). I didn’t really have very many original thoughts for the essay paper we had to turn in; I mostly just collated different works and drew from other people’s arguments but still did pretty well. The lecturer had really good advice for writing philosophy – they constantly stressed to be as clear as possible and to try to be as focussed as possible on one issue when writing. They were really good at explaining fairly complex topics too in the tutes. Overall, definitely sparked a passion in me for the subject and is definitely an area I want to continue reading in. It helps that a lot of important work in the discipline is Australian.
