Contemporary Political Theory, unsurprisingly, involves reading a lot of political theory. The course takes the form of weekly lectures, required readings and tutorials, with assessments being one 2000-word research essay in midsem, and a take-home exam of four 500-word questions. The lectures, presented by Hamza Bin Jehangir, could be improved. They were very dense, but not especially well organised. One got the impression that they were reading a transcript of a lecture that had been improvised by someone knowledgeable in the field. This had the unfortunate side-effect of lacking the organisation of a purely written lecture, and lacking the vivacity of a purely improvised one. The readings and tutorials (all tutored by Gearóid Brinn) are the mainstay of this course. The readings were enjoyable, some quite dense, but enjoyably so, and absolutely imperative to do to ensure one isn’t talking out of their ass in tutes. Gearóid was excellent, and though quite obviously left-leaning, very clearly incredibly passionate about the field, and would consciously catch himself when he began slipping in entertaining anarchist diatribe. He provided excellent feedback on essays, and opportunities to clarify any concerns. I would recommend this class to anyone prepared to do some readings and sling political ideas.

Super good tutor who is really cool and makes the class so fun. The content is really hard though! If you're up for a challenge with in the Politics major then defiantly go for it!
