Reviews

MATH1131 is a foundational course that requires a strong grasp of both calculus and linear algebra. Having served as a Mathematics Teaching Assistant for this course , I found that students often struggle with the transition to university-level rigor in proofs and abstract concepts. Focus heavily on the weekly maple labs and online quizzes, as they are essential for securing an HD.

Not very tough, keep up to dates on lectures, do tutorials and practice past papers, you will get high marks.

Assessment is non standard, questions are not straight forward, relies heavily on students understanding how to use Maple and spending weeks practicing and discussing the practice exams. Other institutions assess material in other ways.

Go to the lectures, do the tutorial questions and past papers - you'll have no problems getting a high grade.

Very good course with wonderful and responsible lectures. The content will be easier for those did well in highschool maths and getting an HD is not difficult. Can be challenging for students without a HSC Mathematics background but the lectures and tutors are helpful, so it is recommended students ask for guidance. The tutorial problems are useful for this course.

Generally good lecturers for the subject. Some of calculus seems a little dry with its introduction to analysis (to be fair - all of the things like IVT, Max-Min theorem get more interesting in higher dimensions). The Algebra component is extremely useful.

Lecturers are brilliant, but if you didn't do a high level of maths in high school get ready for a steep learning curve! The course moves fast, so make sure to stay on top of revision and pay attention in tutorials.

Definitely a challenge for those who didn't take up a mathematics course in high school as many skills are built upon further. However, not difficult at all. You just need to stay on top of your work.
