Reviews

It was a great start to the course. It covers various areas of psychology and gives students an overview of what to expect if pursuing further study in this field.

Anonymous, Term 1, 2021

Was a subject that I had to do - was pretty easy and very interesting. Breaks up study from other more intense disciplines into more applicable sciences. Easy to score well also.

Anonymous, Semester 2, 2017

basic stuff but hard to jump right into without some help from a tutor or something.

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2017

This was a required subject for me and therefore not technically in my field of interest, therefore I didn't enjoy. It was hard to keep up with the massive amounts of content, so I ended up not going to any of the lectures (there were 3 a week) and the assessments are marked quite harshly and (in my opinion) a little unfairly, as the questions for the assignments were often unclear. Final exam fairly easy, only multiple choice questions. Some content interesting, such as social psychology but other aspects extremely dry. Don't bother with the textbook unless you're truly interested and plan on pursuing more PSYC classes - I didn't and saved $100+. There are also mandatory SONA requirements - experiments you are required to participate in for part of your grade. I found these inconvenient and annoying.

A really interesting course that you will find as you learn, is very relatable to your personal life experiences and perceptions. Although i really enjoyed learning this course and will recommend it to anyone who is interested and wants a challenge, i personally found it difficult to keep up and even remember all of the content for the exams. However learning paces are different for everyone and it may be easy for others. I would highly recommend looking at the course outline, before choosing this course to see if the topics being taught interest you. This is a first year psych course and a gen ed, however it won't be super easy to achieve the desire HD's and not a subject to just 'boost your wam'. You would really have to commit it, but overall it really is a valuable course and as long as you work hard you will do well. :)

Great course to see whether youd like to learn further about psychology, as gives broad concepts and themes to this subject. Also gives a good starter on how to use APA formatting and referencing.

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2013

Really good course that covers the entire basis of psychology and provides excellent insight into the underlying thesis behind concepts.

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2015

A bit treacherous but overall a good base topic to study for future knowledge

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2016

It was too vague in what was wanted in the assignments. I found that my tutor had a 'I'm better than everyone here' attitude which made it hard to ask for help.

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2016

You will need to remember quite a bit for the mid-sem and finals. Other than that, its a fun course!
