This course was a complete waste of time. The content was momentarily interesting, but induced sustained boredom over the course of the semester. It was very tailored toward international students, so as a local student I found many aspects of the course tiresome. The assignments consisted of essays with a wide selection of topics, which was a plus. However, the marking was extremely subjective and to get anything better than a credit mark on each essay, you really needed to ramble on about "meaning" and representations and crap. You really had to find out exactly what the lecturer wanted (which was trickier than it sounds) in order to score marginally well. Also, the seminars were structured two hours back-to-back with no break in the middle. It was pretty common for students to fall asleep.
