A simple and brilliant course. It’s a wonderful foundation for any study in English Literature. The lecture brings each book alive and helps give you a grasp on the changes in English Literature though out the centuries.

This is a very important subject that is really essential to doing an English Literature major. The reading load is a lot, and sometimes the assignments can be a bit of a challenge, but so worth learning and doing :).

This was an excellent subject. The reading load is difficult, and I found it very challenging, but it introduced me to great texts and helped me gain a deeper appreciation of literature.

I loved this subject. All my life, I avoided Shakespeare ( I studied his work in high school and I am familiar with a number of his works but I had never actually appreciated it until I did this course.) The theme of the course in 2015 was Subjectivity and we studied: Hamlet, the poetry of Blake Coleridge, Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre", Dickens's "Great Expectations" James's "Turn of the Screw", and Jean Rhys's "Wide Sargasso Sea." Most, if not all of these authors were new to me, although Blake's "The Tyger" is my favourite poem! I really enjoyed this course and although I found the assessment challenging, I did well.

I found ENGL1800 to be quite an interesting subject. There are quite easy marks to get through tutorial attendance (10%) and reading quizzes (15%) . The two essay assignments (worth 50% combined) are really good ways to adjust and introduce university-style writing to students. The final exam was also super breezy (only worth 25%) so long as you were reasonably familiar with key themes of each of the texts.

I really didnt like this subject. I did it first year, first semester as an elective and it was ridiculously boring. The tutes do not need to be 2 hours long.
