As a follow-up to PHYS1001 this course starts to introduce some new concepts not covered in high school physics and serves as a good taster with regards to what the discipline is like (and whether you want to keep studying it!). Similarly to 1001, the course structure and active learning keep you engaged, but I found that the pracs in this course were more engaging in particular. A time consuming course to keep up with for first year, but a rewarding one.

An introduction to electromagnetism, optics and quantum physics. This course covers a wide range of basic physics topics particularly relevant to anyone studying physics and electrical engineering. The strategy for the delivery of the course is different from what most people are used to with a strong focus on learning the content through reading the textbook and doing problems as opposed to content being delivered in lectures. If possible, I would highly recommend doing this course with MATH2000/2001 as the you will be able to appreciate the maths that is used to describe the physics far better!
