My views on this course are very mixed. The lectures were very informative and interesting (Thomas Suddendorf especially is an engaging lecturer) and the tutorial content was also interesting and good for stimulating conversation and new ideas. However, I really disliked the self-monitoring assignment. I can recognise the usefulness in learning how to do it, but the style of thinking required for it is like nothing else in first or second year and I think we needed more coaching for it than we received, as it's not encouraging critical thinking in general but a very specific way of assessing behaviours. I also hated the mini assignments, as they were essentially given without any real teaching on how to do them, so I spent a lot of time working on them and worrying. They're a pass/fail, so it shouldn't have worried me so much, but the expectation for what I needed to include to pass wasn't clear so I was always worrying I was missing something. I believe the intent behind them was to provide feedback we could then apply to the self-monitoring project, but because we were given so little instruction to begin with I felt the opportunity to do a good job and then really identify key areas to improve was denied to us by forcing us to grope for some way to complete the mini-assignments and then finding out how wrong we were.

I loved all the lecturers for this course, my tutor was pretty average though. The hardest part of all is the assignment, make sure that you check and double check with your tutor (good or bad) as to exactly what they want. It's worth a heap of the final mark, and if you are even slightly off target with it, your chances of doing excellently overall are greatly diminished. Again, I absolutely loved the lecturers and got so much from this course, I just would have liked a decent tutor to back it up with.

Wonderful course with good assignment that helps in actually understanding how to do the SORCK analysis.

Most topics are quite interesting. Tutorials are needed to understand what your tutor wants from your assignment. The assignment wasn't great - it was marked quite harshly and didn't feel as though it fit well with much of the course content. Final exam was fair and short answer questions were straightforward as long as you studied the content.

The course is quite good however the lectures are long and stale and the assignment is quite full on and you have to put so much effort into it if you want to get even a 6 equivalent mark on it. Tutorial attendance is required as there are mini assignments that you have to hand in by person, those mini assignments were easy marks though. The content is good but there is just too much to learn I took hours going over so much content where only 20% goes into the exam, I'd suggest that they are more specific on what will go on the exam and what won't instead of "everything on the slides might be on the exam". The course is compulsory though and it gets 3 stars as it's challenging but by no means is it not doable to do good.

Really interesting subject. The assignment really requires starting early and attending the tutes is a must. If you stay on top of the content and put a decent effort into the assignment getting a 7 is very doable.

Super interesting course!!! Loved the lectures but found the tutorials a bit boring. Also did not like the assignment. Thankfully the lecture content was so engaging that it more than made up for the other aspects of the subject.
