Reviews
Bill Von Heppell trivialised Indigenous health in Australia by deliberately only looking at "genetics" rather than any social impacts. He also made crass comments about transpeople. This isn't out-of-the-box thinking, its indoctrination into a white man's way of looking at the world that you are then tested on. Unacceptable.

I absolutely loved this course. It was challenging and engaging, and Bill builds a beautiful narrative around each lecture. The quizzes can be hard, because it requires some out of the box thinking, but the assignment was fun and you got to be creative with it.

This is a very challenging course... it takes some time to get your head around what is expected because it is not like your typical conventional course. The lecturer is fantastic. If you are looking at doing this subject, maybe prepare yourself to use SPSS as I had no experience with the program and had to use it for the major assessment piece.

Be prepared with this as it's different from other subjects in that rather than teaching content it challenges you to think it alternative ways. Must attend every lecture as 66% exam mark is broken into 11 6% end of lecture quiz questions. Readings are a MUST. Assignment is very vague with expectations. Although I believe the subject is being reviewed after this semester and being altered to be more informative. Overall really interesting subject to challenge yourself with!

So interesting and awesome! Take any extra help you can get in this course, and enjoy it! It's an amazing course which will challenge you at every class, but it's worth it.

This course covered some interesting topics and the set text (Freakonomics) was enjoyable. The end of semester exam was pretty hard (and is known to be) as many questions assess minor details from the readings which a lot of people did not cover during their study. I would definitely advise doing the readings from Freakonomics and the readings uploaded to Blackboard in order to do well on the exam.
