Having both coding and philosophy in the same course should be illegal

The worst year of my life. I do not even know where to begin. The weekly course content of this is totally unrelated to the next. Each week in the tutorials we had to do coding, which was completely unrelated to what we had learned in the lecture content. Furthermore, the lecture content itself was highly complex and would relate to completely random aspects of science that involved having to do complex mathematical calculations. (Which are not even necessary for a science degree) This course actually gave me depression, and i ended up dropping out of my degree because of it. Do not get me started on the lecturer's. The most pretentious things i have ever seen. Literally just two old dudes who get off by giving dumb jokes to 1st years and comparing themselves to scientific philosophers...can you believe it. One of the lecturers always rocked up to his lecturers bare foot too!!

It’s important to understand that this course assesses problem-solving and the strategies they taught, not the specific examples in the lectures. Once this is clear, it’s easier to see what they want from you in exams!

A very interesting subject that covers various different scientific content. The workshops involve some computer program that can be quite interesting learn. The assignment is somewhat difficult. The exams are pretty simple if you received a high grade in Maths B in high school (and remember the maths haha).

A very unique subject to the other courses I've done. The content and python coding is a lot easier that people make it out to be, just requires you to think in a slightly different way. The cheat sheet you're allowed to take into exams was very helpful, but the exams mostly relied on logical thinking and reasoning rather than hardcore studying.

Great introduction to a more scientific way of thinking. Personally found it easier to learn the Python content in my own time but overall worth going to lectures/tutorials.

Assessment is marked quite hard. Lecturers are amazing! You should ideally have some background in math B, if not, definitely study hard. You can take a cheat sheet into both exams which is a plus, but you still need to study. Don't rely on previous computer programming skills from high school to get you through this course.

Lots of logical thinking is involved, with mostly maths concepts taught. The maths concepts themselves aren't too hard, it's mainly applying it to questions that is the hard part. The philosophy part wasn't really well integrated as it was so different from the other things we were learning in SCIE1000. Overall, 1st year students should generally be fine in this course.
