This course was a stand-out favourite in terms of productivity; it was engaging, dynamic, and gave a constant push for idea generation. The short story format worked for me, and tight deadlines/ word limits ensure you exit the course with a number of "completed works" you can call your own. It will test your adaptability, (a neccessary challange i.e "murder your darlings"), and you'll learn alot about your own style in the process--whether it naturally resists, or thrives within a structure.

I took a star off because the course seems to favour one style of prose and one style only; spare prose. Students are penalised for straying from the "show don't tell" mantra, regardless of the style of story. Look, I love this course and I'm doing well in it. I need to learn and that's why I'm enrolled. However, am I to discard the style of Mervyn Peake, Charles Dickens, or the Bronte sisters because they come from another era? What if the author intentionally writes thick prose? I love thick prose! I'm gonna start a Thick Prose movement! Join me in thoroughly spicing our audacious tales with shimmering adjectives and we'll purposefully push our Thick Prose agenda until we get published!

Not a hard subject in terms of content, but definitely was in terms of work load. Not a bludge subject, but definitely still enjoyable.
