This was taught by a new lecturer when I took it. The course content was truly impressive, and very engaging, but the unit had some SERIOUS issues. For instance, we were told (both in writing on Canvas and in class) that the final exam would 'follow exactly the format of the first' exam, but this turned out not to be the case, and the second exam had far too many heavily-weighted, long-form extended responses for a one-hour test. (What's more, you had to elect to answer five of six available long-response questions, and one of these questions was on a topic - wall painting - which we did not have enough time to cover in the lectures, and were told would not be covered in any detail on the test. So really, there were five long-response questions and you had to answer those five). I was still furiously writing when the exam time finished, while on the first exam I had had plenty of time to finish AND to check my answers. The other big problem was the essay - I had sent an email to my tutor seeking clarification on approaches to the question I had selected (and in her defence, she copied the co-ordinator, who was the marker, into her response to me) - only to be heavily penalised (the lowest essay mark I have ever received in my life) for following these instructions on the essay I submitted. (Another email I had sent about another aspect of the essay had gone unanswered by the co-ordinator - communication was a general problem in this unit.) Very frustrating, that following instructions gets you in trouble with the marker. Also, the essays took more than six weeks to be marked.
