This is for MIMI2002. First year the unit was run and the content is different to BMED. The unit is split in two- the first section being microbiology and then immunology. I found it quite challenging, especially the immunology part. People who had done IMMU2101 the previous semester found it to be much easier, a lot of the content from that unit was a repeat. Content was interesting overall but a lot to take in. Assessments were fortnightly prac quizzes, workshop activities, skills test, a podcast and the final exam. Midsem quiz was formative this year but most probably will be summative next year. There is a lot to memorise (a lot of pathogens and the diseases they cause) so best to start early.

Really tough and content heavy

Part of the BMED core subjects that quite nicely fits seamlessly with the rest. Very content heavy especially with a large proportion of the subject being devoted to and assessed on lab techniques. Not conceptually difficult however.

Worst unit out of the BMEDs, extremely vague on what you need to know and asked the most ridiculous questions on the final exam. The pre-prac quizzes for the immunology labs are extremely short for the number of blanks/questions we have to answer. our marks for the Theory of prac exam worth 25% of our final grades were never released and it took forever to receive the results for our pre-prac quizzes. Content wise, you can't just memorise everything, you HAVE to understand it

The subject material is a mixture between very interesting and not as stimulating rote learning. The module based on immunology and the body's adaptive immune system is very interesting but at the same time very confusing. There is a A LOT OF MICROBIOLOGY which does get tedious at time with lots to learn with little applied knowledge. The practicals are also very long and time consuming since the material is not really covered in the final exam. The material that is covered in the practical was assessed in the theory of prac which unlike other BMED subjects was not re-assessed in the final exam leaving even more to learn before the exam. Overall an interesting unit which was detracted from by the tedious and rote learning sections spread throughout. Overall 3.5/5.

Worse unit ever. Notes weren’t posted on time and demos never helped.

Loved it! Probably my favourite of the BMED core units, it integrates knowledge in an incredibly effective manner, creating a holistic approach to infection and immunity.

great subject, well organised. Pay a lot of attention in Labs.

lectures are well organised however labs are not!
