Chemistry is the easiest subject! Everything just make sense! Lecture is quite important. It is good to be in the environment where fellows are working together. Pretty enjoy doing lecture worksheet. : )

This subject was really enjoyable for me, it was really interesting material and was a good mix of theoretical and real-world chemistry. The quantum stuff is a little tricky to wrap your head around at first, but this is an advanced subject so it is good to be challenged. The pracs are kinda lame but that doesn't detract from the course overall. If you did IB Chem HL I HIGHLY recommend this stream.

Lecturers are middle of the pack - probably closer to the back than front. Tutors are usually more helpful but they most are PhD students who can be a bit foggy on the fundamentals, especially if it isn't super relevant to their current research. Quantum chemistry and thermodynamics can be very daunting topics to learn for the first time - but the extent to which the course goes into them isn't too difficult to get the hang of. You'll learn much more from doing past exams than lectures or tutorial work - we did have a couple of content based questions but getting used to doing the calculations and putting formulas and equations into use is equally important. The 2017 Sem 1 test was easier than most previous and considering how marks are allocated - most of the advanced cohort get D or HD's. Practicals don't reinforce or echo any of the theory work and are usually just there to teach general skills and lab etiquette.

Content heavy subject, some of which is pretty boring. Some is interesting. The exam is very challenging (in a good way). Lecturers aren't great either. Pracs also seemed a little pointless.

Practise, practise, practise. The exam will be straightforward if you do. Piazza (which you'll be told about) is a great resource for asking questions that I wish I'd used more. If you were good at HSC Chem, you'll be good at this.
