Unless this unit is compulsory for your degree, I'd seriously consider taking something else. The content itself isn't difficult, but the assessment was one of the most frustrating experiences I've had at uni. Marking felt extremely subjective and it was often impossible to tell what actually separated a distinction from a high distinction. Feedback was generally positive, yet marks consistently sat in a very narrow range, making it difficult to understand what was required to achieve higher results. A lot of the assessment came down to interpretation. You could research your concepts, justify your design decisions, explain your reasoning, and still be marked down because the marker didn't agree with how you communicated an idea. Even though that's part of design, in this unit it often felt like there was no clear way to know what was expected until after the marks were released. The feedback also didn't always seem to line up with the grades. In some cases there was very little criticism initially, but when questioned, additional issues would suddenly appear. This made it hard to know whether feedback was being used to help students improve or simply to justify marks after the fact. My biggest takeaway was that expectations for top marks were unclear. I never felt confident that producing stronger work would actually result in significantly stronger grades because the criteria seemed so dependent on individual interpretation. If it's compulsory, get through it and move on. If you're looking for a WAM booster avoid this unit, there are better options.
