Reviews

Took this in my first semester of first year as a core unit and dropped it two weeks after census date. Although I really enjoyed the practical component (shout out to Stephen Lound, amazing tutor and always happy to help), the lecture component was disjointed at best and completely, frustratingly overwhelming at worst. There were 2.5 h of pre-lecture activities and 2 h of post-learning to do and pre-lecture video content was often repeated in the lecture. The lectures felt so impersonal and the lecturer admitted he didn't accept simple extensions because he felt it impacted 'student work ethic'. The unit made me feel overwhelmed and incredibly stressed due to the high workload and lack of understanding from the lecturer. I ended up discontinuing the unit. It was a very expensive $1037 lesson in non-refundable fees that if you feel overwhelmed before the census date, it's ok to drop units. If you want to do well in this subject expect it to take up 60% of your workload. Stay on top of the lecture content otherwise you will die. TLDR; miserable and ovevrwhelming

Don't do this subject if you have the option not to. The lecturers and tutors are amazing and always willing to help. This is the only positive I can think of for the subject. But the content itself is dry and way too content heavy for the amount of time it is taught in. There isn't much integration of the content into the pracs, which you don't really even need to show up to. Would make more sense for some of the prerecorded lectures to be taught in the pracs instead of doing a 2hr GIS exercise.

The content in this unit is really dry and at times, very disorganised as there were multiple lecturers with limited integration of their content. Practicals were boring and were mostly a bludge. Would not suggest doing this unit unless you are interested in geology.

Not that interesting if you're interested in human geography. Assignments are hit or miss, practicals are not interesting. Lectures are pretty good, content is standard and the end of semester exam is pretty easy

Pretty easy. Exam throws a few curveballs but if you study you'll be fine.

Very interesting subject, and easy to score in. Learn the information well and >90 is no problem. Make sure you are in a good group for your group presentation! =D

For the midterm, learn everything in the slides. Even the historical stuff that seems useless :)
