This course is a really interesting introduction to the issues and theories of geopolitics. The lectures were incredibly dense, so keeping up with the readings was necessary to develop a deeper understanding of the wide range of issues discussed in class.

FAVOURITE COURSE THIS YEAR. I used to hate politics but this course really reshaped my perspective and I found a real affinity for it as a result. Theory was practical and wasn't too heavy, but the course really wins in its discussion of recent issues like immigration, environment, Russia in the Eastern Europe, China in the South China Sea etc. If you keep up with the readings (which are a bit but very interesting and certainly didn't feel like a bore) you'll do very well in the assessments. Very easy to do well in, lecturer was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable. Perfect introductory unit to politics and would recommend for anyone.

interesting content but lecturer failed to engage. would recommend but highly individualised learning

Not hard to get distinction. but there are plenty of reading. a bit boring when it talks about sustainable development and globalisation, otherwise classic geopolitics theories are like playing civilisation 5 and some military stuff. anyways the lecturer has a good deep voice and interesting content in the lecture. Geopolitics is about history, strategy, military, resources.

50% of my tut failed the first writing task. My tutor was a dick and gave shitty feedback. Jingdong is a shit lecturer, the second last lecture had like 30 people of a cohort of ~200...But alas, the readings and content were so damn interesting. And if you know your stuff (get reading about international affairs and geopolitics) and prep for tuts and DO THE READINGS then there can be good discussion in lectures and tuts.

This is a fascinating course that provides you with a solid grounding in many of the issues of conflict and contention surrounding current affairs. You'll come out of this able to explain Russia's objectives in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, as well as a solid understanding of China's designs in the South China Sea

Very interesting subject, but the readings were a nightmare and the exam instructions were extremely vague. In my tute we were told the wrong amount of questions and mark allocations for the exam and were in for a surprise when the amount of short answer q's were double what we were told. Despite this lack of clarity, would still say it was a good unit.

The readings are a killer! Knowing what is happening around the world is essential. The lecturer and tutors are very responsive to the students!!

Covers pretty much a century's worth of major political events. Great if you're into history. If Jingdong Yuan is your lecturer you will probably end up not going to 70% of the lectures because he is dry, monotone and boring. So, I cannot stress this enough, DO THE READINGS.

Do your readings and pay attention
