OOP in java is quite an important concept and this unit is a great place to start.

Learning OOP in Java. Confusing at first but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty great. Lots of work required particularly in the assignments. Consistent effort will pay off for this unit, remember to utilise the forum and tutor's help when you get confused since the staff are incredible.

I'm an Econ student and this subject absolutely opens a new world for me. I found it quite hard at the beginning but luckily, everything works out eventually. The teaching team is amazing (both the lecturers and the tutors) and the discussion is really helpful!!!

Two Words - "WAM BOOSTER"

It's a really fun subject that teaches you the fundamentals of programming and engages you consistently with challenges. The only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 is because the assessment tasks are sometimes a little poorly thought out. During two practical exams, there was one error each, both of them being in the middle of the exam and a little off-putting as it was a waste of exam time waiting for the errors to be corrected. The challenges are really excellently designed, and are really great for engaging you and keeping you on top of the subject without getting bored. This was a really fun subject for me.

This is the first course to be a professional programmer. At the very beginning, it could be really hard to find out what it is all about, but with continuous practice, you would take control of Java and enjoy programming with Java. As for the very first course to every student(not only IT/CS students), learning how to program is quite useful. It helps you develop problem solving skills, introduce basic programming skills, and finally you will have a brand new perspective of computers. I strongly recommend you to go over the lecture slides carefully. Some codes are confusing but try to understand each line of the code. Be curious all the time and do not be shy to ask questions. Additional materials are not quite necessary. Understanding all the slides and tutorial exercises are just that enough, but it is still a challenge as well.

Pretty fun class that gives any interested a small glimpse into the world of programming and the basics of the technological world we live in. Tutors are helpful and the lecturer is nice and engaging, however he ALWAYS runs out of time and skims the last 10 slides in 2 minutes before the hour. So on top of constant/regular practice you're going to want to read the book (available for free online, just google) and go over it yourself. Also, the tutorials are extremely helpful if you don't understand something as that is where you really get your hands dirty.

Really fun and interesting computer science

This unit is fun but challenging. JAVA starts out fairly easy and gets increasingly more difficult leading up to week 13. If you don't put in the practice hours, you WILL become overwhelmed. This is a unit where practice and effort are imperative. However, if you have a knack for logic problems then this unit will be significantly easier.

Interesting, helpful and practical. The lecturer is very envolved and clear, tutors are good as well. Overall, this unit is not very difficult but you should definitely make a lot of practice of programming to gain a good mark.
