Excellent unit that introduces you to key BIS concepts such as ERD, BPMN, Market basket analysis etc. Content is a bit broad which is good if you want an easy gateway into BIS but not so much if you want more detail (this shouldn't detract from the overall experience imo). Lecturers are also very supportive and knowledgeable. Number one tip: CHOOSE YOUR GROUP MEMBERS WISELY FOR MARKS!!

Not taught well.

Engaging lecturer. Content is quite easy. The only thing is that you have to attend lectures because of the TBL style and the heavy focus on groupwork is a weekly time commitment.

Emphasis application of knowledge and group work. The mid term is tricky, and the average mark for assignment is not so good. BUT it is still EASY to get HD in this course. Remember to find good group members!

Barney is great!

Anonymous, Semester 1, 2017

If you aren't in Barney Tan's lecture, get your ass in there or just listen to his lecture streams when they're uploaded. You're much more likely to do better in this unit with him as your lecturer. I had a different lecturer but Barney took over our lecture stream one time as a relief lecturer and I found him very engaging and thorough. He really goes through everything you need to know to the point that I just listened to his lectures in preparation for exams, and didn't feel the need to do much else. Honestly, you don't even need to buy the textbook for this unit. The lecture slides provided are jam-packed with everything you need to know. They also upload plenty of practice questions and the answers online to help you prepare for exams. I'm a commerce student but took this subject as one of my core units, and it has been the most intellectually rewarding subject I've taken in the 3 semesters I've been studying at USYD. Highly recommend it.

Dr. Barney Tan is hands down the best unit coordinator/lecturer I've had thus far in Uni - very efficient and effective in delivering content. Five stars for sure
