Tough subject. But very enjoyable and doable if you stay on top of it all. You'll get a D-HD if you actually do the work and make the time to understand the concepts. Make sure you do all the ETQ's and homework questions, you'll be prepared for the exam as there's no real surprises as long as you've put the effort in. Not a subject to do if you don't enjoy finance and want to do an easy elective. I loved it though and would highly recommend if you want to gain a better understanding of practical applications in finance.

difficult to understand concepts in depth. Math is tricky. Read the textbook carefully.

People will tell you that this is a difficult, but useful subject - and that's true. But it's still crammable the night before, though I don't recommend it

Such a useful and relevant subject if you're studying finance. I thoroughly enjoyed it! But If you're looking for an easy finance elective then this is not the subject for you. It's a subject that requires a lot of practice and study in order to do well. But with the right amount of dedication and practice, a D/HD is achievable. Concepts can be tricky but doable with repetition - do all the extra tutorial questions. The self assessment quizzes help as well. The lecturer Vinay Patel is seriously awesome!!! He explains concepts very well in a simple, clear manner and it is clear that he genuinely cares about his students' success in the subject. Prepare early and hard for the midsem and final. The group assignment is not too hard but make sure you get a good group because it's a lot of work.

Derivative is always the tough subjects even for the student with solid fondation of financial knowlege, to survive, the combined knowledge from mathematics, finance and economics were assumed.

This is the most innovative and exciting area in financial markets. A must-do subject for anyone who loves finance and want to challenge him/herself on the ability to turn abstract ideas into practical instruments.

This is a great subject. I love it. Use the knowledge to trade option in the market. Great subject.

Derivative Securities is a must-do subject if you want to land a Finance job, or you want to really gain a deep understanding of how the market works. Not when you just want to get an easy elective. There's quite a bit of Math to do, however as long as you understand the core theories, you would be fine. Exam and quiz are not too hard as long as you attend lectures/tutorials and do pracs

Essential if you are doing Finance Major. Heavy workload but! Still can get D/HD if you go to lecs and tuts regularly, and do the sample exam papers properly.

Great lecturer, found this subject very useful
