Horrible unit. I put in so much effort but got the same grade as a friend who put in little effort. Assignment was vague which suggested we could interpret it however but they clearly had a specific concept in mind. Too much focus on abstract and emotional concepts rather than actual quality and effort put in. Classes are really fun though, but not as fun when you receive your grade.

I did this unit as an elective and enjoyed the activities in classes. They were fun and interesting, and helped me improve on my drawing skills. The only downside with the classes is that they are 3 hours long, which I found to be a long time to be standing up on my feet. I had Annie as a tutor and she was really nice and gives good advice on how to improve. I found that Andy was a really good lecturer, he made the lectures interesting and gave examples of a lot of artists which may inspire you for the major art project. I had a friend that had Andy as a tutor and they liked the classes he ran. Our first assignment was a portfolio of all the work we did in class as well as all the homework we had in the first 4 weeks of the semester. The second assignment was the major art project which was an expanded self portrait. I enjoy art however I felt rushed majority of the time because there were so many drawings we had to do for the first assignment which were time consuming (however I am a perfectionist and like spending heaps of time on each piece). Another reason why I'm a bit apprehensive of this unit is that while I put heaps of time and effort into my pieces, the marks didn't pay off. I ended the semester with a Credit Pass which I wasn't thrilled with, as I put heaps of time and effort into the pieces. People in my class loved it but apparently the marker thought it didn't give off the idea I was trying to convey. I would reccommend this unit to someone who loves art, can work quickly and has some time on their hands in the semester!

Had a lot of fun with this unit, and from the other reviews it seems to depend on who your tutor is. I had Jo and she knew how to give and show feedback so that everyone became a better drawer. She wanted people to do well, was super encouraging, and super fun. Andy seemed ok from lectures, liked to talk a lot

This unit doesn’t help you improve on your artistic skills but rather allows you to explore different forms of drawing which I thought was useless. Quite a few lessons consisted of scribbling or stabbing the paper with a pencil. I found Andy to be very rude and unapproachable. Very biased and opinionated marking and judgment of any artwork you do. The lectures are a complete waste of time, really boring and didn’t really teach anything. I don’t recommend this unit but some may actually enjoy it.

pretty average unit, tutorials are 3 hours per week which is way too much time every week. the projects are easy and it's not hard to do well.. the unit coordinator Andy is pretty rude too, has no issues telling a student their art sucks
