Overall a pretty good unit. I found the lecture content really interesting but kinda hard to retain without continual study. Thomas is a great unit coordinator though and cares a lot about the unit. His pre-lab videos, lectures, and lab manuals are of a very high standard in my opinion. The workshops are informative and although the content is not recycled for the exam, the content provided is useful study material. A lot more effort and care has gone into this unit compared to BIOC3002. The ongoing lab project was great but it was very abstract until the final data analysis (that's when it finally made sense to me). There was not much guidance regarding the lab report/data analysis (12.5%), however, Thomas marked it out of 50, which was very nice as it meant he only docked marks in increments of 1-0.5 or so. So scraping 80 or more was very doable if you put in the effort. Exam was challenging for some, mostly due to the extended response questions (50% of the exam). You needed to have studied hard, but it was rewarding to the students who had. I didn't do too well due to a lack of adequate preparation but I thought it was a fair exam. There is nothing wrong with this unit. It's not easy but you learn a lot and it's well coordinated.
