The unit is very useful and recommended for those students interested in Chemistry areas. Thermodynamics was the first part and the most difficult part which require you to practice through the question regularly. Second part is about structure elucidation, symmetry, and crystal field theory. This part is also easy if you understand the content well. Practice for the structure elucidation part well, as this can bring down your mark. The last part was chromatography and some analytical instruments which were easy enough if you can follow the material well. Labs were done every week which is very tiring and the report due a week after. The exam was short answer and there was limited time to do it. The lecturers were good and very helpful.

A jump from 1st year chem, but not insanely hard. Labs were done every week till week 12 and reports are due a week after; reports were not hard, but annoying and tedious. Unit consisted of three main parts with three different lecturers (thermodynamics, structure elucidation, chromatography), 2nd and 3rd part overlapped and was easier. Hardest part of the unit was thermodynamics as the concepts are quite hard to grasp. Exam was full SAQs and was difficult.

Not sure what all these reviews are on about, it's a lot better than first year chem. Labs are very chilled out, reports are a fair bit of work but just don't do them last minute and they're easy marks. The 2nd and 3rd lecturer overlap a lot of content making it a lot easier to understand. Thermodynamics is the hardest part of the course, but just find the textbook online for free and do the practice q's from them

Very intense unit. Lots of thermodynamics and a tonne of maths which is hard and painful to work through (worth half the course). Assessments started immediately with no real guidance on what to do - Lab report due every week starting from the very first lab :( Enjoyed the last couple of weeks when it moved to chromatography the most. Exam and tests were really hard.

Very demanding unit, with weekly lab reports it requires a lot of time. The thermodynamics section is not very well prepared and unclear when being taught in the lectures. The exam was very difficult and required a lot of study throughout the semester which felt unachievable with the labs running consistently. Chromatography and UV/Vis as well as is probably the most well laid out part of the unit. Starts off very difficult. Was a good experience overall just poorly organised and pretty much threw you into the deep end with lab reports.

One of the craziest units I have done so far. With 12 labs that runs starting from week 2 to week 13 and having the lab reports due exactly a week after it was carried out, the workload is extremely heavy. I would advise you to not do it unless you are majoring in Chemistry. I found the lecturers somewhat unenthusiastic in teaching, which made it less enjoyable to learn. The workload makes it hard to juggle with that of other units.
