Reviews
Legit don't stress. Remember reading these reviews everyone was like ah mah god unit is vague and difficult, but I ended up with a high HD. For the final exam, all you need to do are the tute q's and that silly professor reused questions from past exam papers specifically 2014 exam prac. q's on studocu. Also, don't waste time finding examples that can be found a couple days before the exam. Assignments were alright however can be made up with the exam. Quiz answers can also be found on quizlet and studocu cuz he reuses the questions he asks.

Ray is an excellent lecturer who takes the time to explain all the concepts clearly, whilst linking them with current events in the world of finance. Quizzes are sometimes ambiguous but can be reasoned straight from the lecture. To get a high mark in the assignment make sure to reference reliable sources i.e. studies from reputable universities, and avoid news articles. Exam was worth 60%, so a good opportunity to boost your mark if you didn't do so well in the quizzes/assignment. I was able to get an HD 91 in this unit by carefully reviewing lecture slides, tutorials, and paying close attention to the week 12 lecture in preparation for the final.

Unit is all over the place, no solid concepts taught except for a single formula, the lectures are almost exclusively current events in the world of finance with minimum links to concepts taught. Quiz questions and tutorials are vague and open ended, with most being able to be argued both ways. Ray does seem knowledgable but the unit is just not well designed or taught. Skip if you can

This unit quite unorganised. The lecturer, tutors and unit coordinators are all very good people but the unit itself is just a mess. The lectures are way too long and there's no actual lecture slides its just summaries of articles. Its so hard to understand what is going on in tutorials. This unit is pretty much all theory, no calc which i didnt mind for a change. Final exams worth 60% and is 6 short answer questions in 3 hours. They mark well though, but I would avoid this unit where possible. Ive never been so clueless for a whole semester of a unit.

It is completely an awful unit and I nearly failed . No specific content to learn and not taught in depth for each content, just broad knowledge. The tutorial questions are so weird and vague, and I do not even understand some concepts the tutor says. For a student having got so many HDs in finance and accounting and economics unit, I do not think I lack the ablility to understand, it is the tutorial question bad. And the exam and assignment was very subjective. Never do this if you are not required to do this unit.

Pretty average unit but does not feel like a level 3. I expected to be learning more quantitative methods for evaluating investments but the unit focused more on broad topics, which I guess made it easier. The assignment was weighted 30% and final exam 60%. This was kind of annoying particularly because we were given no practice material for the exam and the only info was 'similar to tube questions'. After doing the final exam, I felt like many students who would've studied hard couldn't easily don't badly because you had to write so fast to cover all the questions- I didn't feel that that was fair. The lectures were long but it's obvious that Raymond is knowledgable and makes time to deliver the content in a time-relevant manner. Finance majors don't really have a choice in taking this, but as long as you have a good understanding of macroeconomics and how it influences investing you'll be fine. I haven't done any macro, but I finished the semester on 90%, pre exam grade.

Super interesting unit. Raymond makes it insightful using a tonne of real life examples. If you want to learn about investing and the bond/stock market, this unit is great. Fairly easy to pass, fairly hard to get a HD.

It was an ok unit. The lecturer does explain some simple concepts in a really long complicated way that could be made much simpler. After you understand the basics it is fairly easy to do well.

I came to do FINA3324 thinking it was going to be absolute hell. It is and it isn't. Although there is a lot of content to learn, and the in-lecture quizzes are ambiguous, the markers of the assignment, and the final exam were very lenient. It helps if you have friends/people in this unit to talk to about the quizzes and especially the assignment (since the content you write is subjective). Make sure you actively participate in the tutorials to get full marks.
