It's a HD-able unit, and I particularly enjoyed doing the film review and reflection. The essay was hefty, with it being 50%, but I honestly don't have any complaints for it. They were also quite generous with tutorial participation marks in my experience. One thing I think is absolutely amazing is the hotlines they run. They offer up their own time to help us, and you can tell they genuinely just want us to succeed. Mel is lovely. I took is as a part of my Psychology major but this is something I would've even considered doing even if I wasn't required to. I wasn't able to attend the lectures in person, and although it isn't necessary to, I wish I did. I found it cool how interactive they were, with Mel not just talking at everyone but giving people the microphone to voice their opinions and answers. Only if they wanted to talk of course. Overall, I recommend this unit.

I liked this unit, Mel is a cool lecturer and there isn't too much content. The tutorials were good too, but the big class size made it difficult to have a discussion which wasn't great cuz participation was 17%. There is only two assessments: the two film reviews which I liked (700 words each) and 1,500 words final essay was wasn't hard. Marks are good as well.

Such an easy HD unit. 25 percent is literally just attending class and participating in discussions, and even though i'm a shy introvert myself, I still got pretty high. Another 25 percent was dedicated towards watching two films and writing reviews and your own personal reflection. Pretty straightforward and easy. Finally the big bulk of the weightage (50 %) is the 1500 word essay. However you are given the questions from the start giving you ample time to research and to do it. Its also nice that they cover different topics that are related to the essay questions. Mel and my tutor Steven are really nice and respond to any questions you have ( they also dont mark too harsh which is nice ). However asessments and marks aside I love the content and how its soo crucial to learn exactly the full story of what happened to our country , the stories of the first nations people and how it evolves today.

probably the easiest HD you will get without an exam. however, if you are an introvert and just want to breeze through a unit, DO NOT do this unit as you may find it a bit uncomfortable.. easy unit tho

Tuts were interesting, my tutor Mr Nelson was helpful. But the final essay was extremely difficult and the mark was less than I had expected because it took me so many days to gather material and make modifications to my writing. Not sure who marked it. If English is not your first language it could be quite hard.

This is a great unit and if you participate in the tutorials, listen to the lectures, and put effort into the two written assignments you will do great. Mel is a great unit coordinator, his lectures are not content heavy nor are they bland. The content in this unit is actually really enjoyable. Having said all of that, this is still a tertiary level subject and it does require work to get a HD. Don't listen to people who say it's an "easy HD". I got a comfortable HD but I gave the unit the respect that it deserves. I done all the prescribed reading each week, I watched all of the lectures and films, and I started the assignments early. I was also in constant communication with my tutor and Mel, they wanted us to do well, but they're not going to give you marks that aren't reflective of your effort, this goes for the assignments and the tutorial participation.

An easy HD unit, highly recommend. Lectures are really easy to follow and understand, majority are way less than an hour. Tutorials are really entertaining depending on the tutor and the people you sit with. Tutorials really help you understand the material being taught. Weekly readings are really easy to do, a basic skim over the text will even be enough ( I don’t encourage that though). Assignments are easy HDs there’s really no stressing. When it comes to the final essay it needs a bit of research as the referencing and footnote requirements are a lot, but besides that it’s pretty easy. Steven is a great tutor, really chill and very helpful with any questions you have. Mels also great, he does hotlines for assignments so you can ask him any questions you may have.

A chill unit that is great if you have other intense units. Mel is amazing because he has hotlines to help and takes time out of his day to talk to students and quell their worries. My only thing about this unit would be that you choose a good tutor, some don't mark by the rubric or (at leat the one I had) mark harshly. It is HDable if you get a good tutor so be warned. They're all nice though and approachable but marking is very subjective.

Very easy HD. Just come to all tutes and do all the assignments. No exam. Ask help when you need. You can email or even call the lecturer. The teaching team is very friendly. I am also an introvert, so it is very possible for an introvert to do this unit and get HD.

Great unit. Mel is a great lecturer and tutor. He wants everyone to do the best they possibly can. I think that the only way you can fail this unit is by not showing up to tutorials and not submitting your assignments. Assessment hotlines are available the week that an assessment is due (available on certain days and times). You're also able to send Mel your draft essays for feedback. If you get stuck and only have dot points, you can send that to him and he'll help you get started. I have never seen a unit coordinator/lecturer/tutor be so supportive of students. You can absolutely do this unit if you're introverted, I'm introverted and got a HD overall. Do not do this unit if you're someone who wants to put in no effort. Your grade in this unit is partially dependant on how much effort you're willing to put in.
