Great unit not too hard you just have to look at the lecture notes and read a few case studies super helpful for life knowledge

I took this unit as an elective and was not disappointed. Each week you learn about a new area of law and various applications of the law. The most fantastic part is that the lectures are tailored to actual real-life scenarios that people might face in their day-to-day lives! The tutorials are a guided exploration of the lecture content that let students put the content into context by working through various scenarios. Each student is encouraged to participate and it led to lots of healthy discussion about the benefits and failings of the law. The assignment was pretty fun, you need to give legal advice to different characters based on pre-set scenarios. The exam was open book and very easy if you had detailed yet concise notes. Overall, an amazing and practical unit that I would recommend for any student wishing to broaden their horizons!

I took this unit as an elective and can safely say I'm glad to have. The assignment was actually quite fun to do — giving legal advice for different scenarios — with my only wish being that I started earlier. In terms of the exam, we have yet to get our marks back but it felt quite easy, particularly because it was open book. I was genuinely interested in a lot of the content taught, and can definitely vouch for it being very practical and applicable to our everyday lives. They don't expect much at all from you, with no readings being mandatory. Both lecturers, Aidan and Amy, were very good. I also enjoyed going to the tutorials, with the tutor encouraging prior preparation but understanding life gets in the way and that it's completely okay if you couldn't do that. If you want to take a law unit to try it out but are afraid because of law's reputation of being hard and too demanding, I suggest taking this unit. I honestly think even people who don't have an interest in law would still like this, as it's so practical and you learn some interesting and surprising things.

This unit is very enjoyable and also contains extremely useful information that has helped me as a young adult. The lectures (both Kate and Aidan’s) were really fun to go to, but I especially loved Kate’s as she would always include input from students in a way that was both informative and entertaining. The tutorials definitely improved my understanding of the lecture content by putting it into context by creating and working through various scenarios. The exam was open book and consisted of questions found in the lecture slides or covered in tutorials, so if you want an easy D or HD make sure you attend both!! Would definitely recommend this unit, even if you’re not particularly interested in law.

SUCH A GOOD UNIT. The two lecturers, Kate and Aidan, are amazing and so engaging. I love that you have the opportunity to basically decide what is in the lectures each week through a question platform. The content is all super relevant and interesting, and genuinely made me want to pursue law. The main assignment is really flexible and you can basically choose to do whatever you want as long as you cover the topic. The tutorials are also super fun and engaging. I could not recommend this unit enough, even if the law doesn't particularly interest you.

Absolutely in LOVE with this unit! Everything is so relevant to what you'll encounter as adult such as housing and renting, employment, healthcare, driving etc. and the lecturers make the most basic adulting endeavours so interesting! Kate has an incredible sense of humour and brings so much contagious energy! And Aidan's enthusiasm and passion takes lectures to the next level. I'm studying biomedical science but these two make me want to pursue Law! The best unit coordinators & lecturers at UWA- you won't be disappointed! And each lecture is interactive! You can send in questions that range from simple and relevant to extreme and wacky and Kate will always strive to answer it in her own exciting way. Assessments include tutorial participation (easy marks as the whole tutorial is just discussion) as well as a creative assignment where you just share laws surrounding a certain topic using a magazine, poster, animation, podcast, Tik Tok, you name it! And exam is open book. I'll certainly miss this unit and would recommend it to absolutely anyone.

This unit is AMAZING! Kate offers such great insight into the practical functions of law. Every week we focus on different topics, ranging from the law surrounding assault to the laws involved in house ownership and renting. The unit gives really great insight into how the law affects adults, which I've found really helpful. Every lecture and workshop is so informative, well structured and downright interesting. Class discussions are amazing, and kate will answer any of your absurd questions. I would definitely recommend it, it's always the highlight of my week!

Loved this unit so much!!! Kate and Aidan (the lecturers/tutors) were amazing. The tutorials were fun and I always felt like I was learning something I would need to know later in life. The lectures were always really interesting. The mid-semester assignment had a lot of freedom and the final exam was really easy since it was open-book. I really didn't need to put in too much effort and still ended with an HD. Would 100% recommend doing this unit as an elective/broadening :)

This unit was just introduced this past sem, but was honestly intriguing and was a small work load. There is a really short presentation and a creative midsem assessment. The topics covered were generally interesting, and the lecturers are really friendly. This is a good unit to introduce you to how the law actually impacts our everyday lives.
