This unit was a good peak into the world of university level mathematics. The lectures, for the most part, were engaging, although the rotation of lecturers and different teaching styles was a negative. Also, the Bolster Academy online assessments often had errors which made the assignments tedious to get through. The weekly 2 hour prac classes are fun (depending on your tutor), and the participation marks are an easy way to boost your grade. The exam being open book is a plus. If you like maths and are taking this unit, I'd recommend watching 3blue1brown's Essence of Linear Algebra after you've done the linear algebra portion of the unit.

I want to love this unit, but it has some major flaws. Des Hill, the unit co-ordinator, is clearly a very passionate teacher who wants to ensure everyone follows along with his explanations. While he does a good job bringing much of the content "down to earth", explanations he gave would sometimes take so long that they would become hard to follow. For example, when demonstrating integration by parts, Des might intend to show how it can be used to create equations for integrals which can be solved explicitly. But the demonstration would amount to a laborious 20-30 minute computation, and by the end students will likely have forgotten what the initial point was! Much like MATH1011, the unit uses the SOWISO portal to deliver online quizzes each week. To put it frankly, this portal is atrocious and does not meet the requirements of the content this unit delivers. For example, near the end of the unit fourier series are covered. Several SOWISO questions require you to derive the fourier coefficients of a function and then use it to reconstruct it's fourier series. By itself, this is an annoying question, even writing down the answers is fiddly. The SOWISO portal, held together with equal parts duct tape and prayer, requires the user to manually select symbols from a palette, and will begin to lag horribly when answers involve more than 10 symbols. The unit is good, and practically forced upon any STEM student. The experience of taking it however is not good. Also, please god practice your fourier series before the exam.

Content heavy course but wasn't as difficult as MATH1011 to grasp concepts. Participation marks were a nice bonus. Online mid sem and open book final exams were a saviour. Most of the exam questions are reused from previous years with different variables so if you do the previous exams and print out solutions and take them into the open book exam you should be fine.

Hard to understand at the beginning with new concepts, make sure to attend the tutorials and keep up with each week's content.

Content was on the most part harder than MATH1011, but tbh, 1012 really didn't live up to the hype. Sure, linear algebra was kinda hard to understand at first but after 6 weeks of doing it, it wasn't so bad. As far as the other topics go, sequences and series was the only one that was really challenging. Tal was a good lecturer and he worked through the notes and examples at a pace that allowed everyone to follow. Participation marks were a nice bonus. Kurt Williams is an absolute lad of a tutor, our class banter was absolutely on point.

Tal Garfunkel was an amazing teacher, his passion for mathematics kept the unit interesting and he explained the concepts very well. I however did not like that we were put into compulsory tutorial spots. This made me feel like I was being babied and it meant that help was only on access twice a week (for me that was Wednesday morning and Wednesday midday). This became especially difficult during the Covid lockdowns and my grades suffered as a result.

The lecturer for my semester was friendly and responds to all mathematical questions. Definitely a challenging unit, so I suggest that you keep up to date each week and attempt the practice questions. Fun fact: the online learning quizzes each week are posted on SOWISO, and most of the questions used in those assignments are simply taken from the existing questions. Those existing questions will have solutions with working out.

This unit was quite challenging but the lecturer was willing to help/listen to some extent. Overall it is definitely possible to do well but the MCQ format I experienced sabotaged me a little too much

Very good lecturer and great facilitator. The actual unit is very challenging and takes a lot of work. Weekly online quizzes which were always hard and two exams worth 40% each (as of now but i think this changes based on the lecturer). certainly a difficult unit which takes a lot of time and effort

Definitely harder than MATH1011 but if you study hard, it's easy to achieve an HD (I didn't study as much but still managed to pull off a high D). Due to covid, there were no mid or final exams which was awesome, so there were only weekly quizzes, two online tests and two assignments
