Literally the best easiest funnest unit I did all year. No lectures, just some videos you have to watch which outline the essay. The essay is really easy to write, just listen to the tutors when they say keep a journal throughout semester. I absolutely loved the practical classes, so simple and stress free and genuinely fun with the right attitude. Make sure to show (or pretend) that you’re enthusiastic in classes and the final performance to get on your markers good side. Almost guaranteed HD if you have half a brain. Note - if you like this unit, do MUSC1982 and MUSC2981 (they're pretty much the same, just slightly different assessments).

Highly recommend doing this unit if you’re looking to boost your marks and enjoy your time at uni. The drums and more Ensemble is amazing, and the overall experience is great.

I really liked this unit. My classes ran 9 of the 12 weeks, due to public holidays and what not. I chose to do the Ukulele Ensemble and I enjoyed the classes. I had Nick as a teacher and we always started on time and finished on time. Each lesson we would learn new chords and build on songs that we were playing. If you're interetsed in ukulele and enjoy music I'd reccommend this unit to you. It's not hard and Nick is a really good teacher. He always gave us tips on how to play better or ways to play that might be easier for us. I made friends in this class and so each week was fun for me and the end of semester concert was an amazing experience. The end of semester essay is based off your experience and the journal entries you write each week after the lesson. I was quite happy with how I did, I ended up with a Higher Distinction. I reccommend this unit!

The unit is well run and the marking is fair; the teachers and lecturers are good at what they do. I just don't know how they managed to make learning music so boring and unenjoyable. My rating is based on my experience. This is a good unit... I just did not like it.

This unit is good for upping your GPA and that's about it. The classes are very boring and constantly getting cancelled, starting late, finishing early. Luckily you're guaranteed at least 75% for the end of semester performance. If you're literate in English and answer the essay topic correctly you should get 70% for it. It's very difficult to not get at least a distinction as a final grade. Everyone should do this unit, but don't expect to enjoy the process. Every session was torture for me, as I was partnered with a girl that I liked. I avoided speaking to her out of respect, but it made me resent class even more. I tried to reallocate myself in a different class, but I wasn't allowed to. I understand it's important for a class to develop together without participants swapping in and out, but I still wish I was allowed to reallocate myself for a few sessions.

Did this unit during the summer (January 2023). It's fairly straight forward. It is ran over about three weeks during January. Two weeks involve the classes where you practise your ensemble performance and then the final week is just allocated to writing the essay based on your experience. You are marked based on attendance (10%), participation (20%), performance (30%) and written essay (40%). I think its a rather enjoyable unit, even if you have no prior training/experience in music (I had none whatsoever). It's also relatively easy compared to the average unit you would take during a semester. The really short duration and the fact that I was only doing this unit during the summer made it super chill and enjoyable. I honestly can't say a bad thing about the unit. It is also quite straight-forward to HD and just fun as hell 5/5.

Pretty easy HD if you're interested in music or already know how to play an intrument. But could be a little bit challenging if you've never played any instrument before. Did the ukulele ensemble online, and it was amazing! Tutors were so kind and reply fast to emails! A lot of beginners but performance and partipation marks were marked generously. You can pass so easily even if u did bad in the reflective report ( an essay of around 1500 words i think). I wrote the essay in a day based off my own weekly journal entries they told me to keep, and got an HD! justt follow the essay examples/format, and come up with your own personal reflections that haven't been said in the examples before. Totally recommend this unit. its actually fun.

It's a joke how easy this unit is. Most of the lectures are about how to do the essay or how to write your exams, and the other lectures aren't even examinable. The auditions were also super fun as well, and you just banged out some music and enjoy doing it. The performance wasn't too bad, though because we had to move to online classes, it was 10 times easier as we just recorded our performance, so your mileage may vary with this. The journal wasn't too bad; just follow the example ones of the lectures and you'll be fine. The essay looks intimidating at first, but is actually quite easy if you know how to do research and you have a solid journal to work from. Overall, highly recommended, not too difficult HD.
