This was probably one of the best philosophy units I've ever taken. Hayden is one of those people who knows literally everything about everything, and in those rare occasions where he didn't have a perfect answer off the rip, he stoppped and considered things carefully while taking answers from the class. In a profession that celebrates and encourages ego, Hayden reigns his in - and, along with the small tutorial sizes (in which he takes the time to get to know each student personally), this makes his class among the easiest to feel welcomed and comfortable in groups I've ever been a part of at this uni. Fair warning to potential takers of this unit: while the environment is easy to learn in, that does not mean the content is necessarily easy to learn. In the interest of full disclosure, this unit has wayyyy more math than any philosophy unit has any right to. For the first 5 weeks or so, it's difficult to link what you've been learning to your preconceptions of "traditional" philosophy. Trust me though, once it starts to click (around week 7/8 ngl) it becomes just as endlessly transcendentally-debatable as any other thought experiment (in a good way). I would 100% recommend this unit to anyone considering it. It's a whole new side of philosophy that you won't get much experience with elsewhere - and I can't think of anyone better equipped to take it than Hayden. Also the assessments are lowkey not that hard if you study up.
