Was not looking forward to completing this unit as it's veryyyy different to previous psych units. There are weekly tutorials which thankfully this year were not marked for participation, but you needed to prepare material for your dyadic discussions which were a bit daunting at first but were valuable as you receive teacher feedback on the areas to improve which helps for your assessments. The first assessment is a policy report which involves researching a social problem and targeting psychological constructs to create an intervention to improve on the problem - remember the magic triangle!!! Make sure the constructs you choose are actually a construct and not a theory, and actually something that can be reasonably targeted by your intervention and backed up by research! Next is a group presentation, groups are assigned based on your nominated topic of interest in the tutorials, similar idea to the policy report but an oral version - a big chunk of the mark was based on 'style' which included things like engagement so make sure to hone in on that. Definitely meet with your group regularly to get on top of it early and rehearse in advance so that it flows, you manage time and don't read off palm cards. Lastly, at the end of the semester during study week, you have to complete a case study instead of a final exam, the only good thing about this is you don't have to study lecture content across the semester for it, but rather just apply the skills you've learnt from the tutes and previous assessments. It was basically a mini policy report except you were given the topic and had to answer various questions. The people I spoke to struggled more with this assessment as it was said we wouldn't need the full 8 days given to complete it, but you definitely do as a LOT of research is involved, also quite tricky to come up with psychological constructs for it. All in all, just make the most of this unit and pray you get good, hardworking group members as that is what saved me :))

Sometimes interesting but difficult because it's so different from all other psyc units I've done. Policy report was one of the hardest assessments I've done, so get started early & ask questions. The final test is taking way too much of my time in study week so I'm writing this to vent :'(

If you like politics, then (maybe) you’ll like this unit. Not a political person myself, so I found this unit very boring :( the YouTube guest lectures are quite interesting though

skim the readings before the lectures or at least the tutes. it helps to make sense of the lectures
