Reviews
for a first year marketing class, this isn’t very introductory/beginner-friendly in my opinion. would like to preface this review with: in 2020, I took MKTG3009 with no prior knowledge of marketing and got a distinction. in 2021, I got a pass for MKTG1001. tutorial participation is marked harshly in that the tutor expects you to answer everything perfectly? how is that possible as a first year unit? especially with little feedback besides “read the rubric” to improve. in addition, the essays give you little word count to address every part of the rubric thoroughly. this was my experience as someone who had mark irvine as their tutor, would not recommend him.

This subject is broad and gives an insight into marketing theory without going into too much depth for a 1st year subject. The assignment is very straightforward and an easy opportunity to earn marks if your report writing skills are strong. The assessed content refers to the textbook HEAVILY, and there is a lot of reading to do each week (sometimes 100-150 pages). Find summary notes and refer to the textbook in open book quizzes where you can. 6-10 hours of work a week (mainly consolidating readings) should get you a D/HD.
