Before I started the unit, everyone said it was very tough. I didn't find it that difficult. The lecture videos were awesome with a lot of examples. The assignments were very tough, especially the first 2. But for the final exam, if you go through every question from the 2 mock exams they provide, the final exam is very passable. In my opinion, it is very doable to get a credit or pass with the bare minimum effort, but getting a Distinction and above requires a lot of effort. The trick to this unit is that the content isn't actually that difficult, but remembering the large variety of procedures and formulas for questions across the whole unit is the real challenge. The formula sheet in the exam is nearly useless but if you memorise all the different formulas and the 4 or 5 steps to do each type of question per week, the exam becomes very doable. Another tip is that the exam is very working out heavy with barely any multiple choice or single answer questions so getting working out marks for every question gets you through the exam hurdle. The topics are - vectors, lines, and planes, - solving 4+ variable simultaneous equations using matrices, matrix basics, transformations, eigenvalues, and eigenvectors, - multivariable calculus (all the basic calculus stuff but it has more than 2 variables cause its 3D), - More methods of integration, hyperbolic functions (sinh(x) etc), Ordinary Differential Equations (split into 3 weeks that get more and more aids), - series and sequences (Taylor and McLaurin Series)

Content was quite mid, not very much depth as the others have pointed out. Interesting sure, but some lecture concepts are severely lacking in explanation, especially when they throw a curveball question. This all amounts to a decent unit, but the EXAM is the real hurdle. I'm not sure about previous years, but there is not very much reason to have a closed book math exam, plus the formula sheet they supply is next to useless. If you have terrible memory, I suggest praying, or using other legal means to pass the exam hurdle

Personally, I found the unit really easy but found out that many of my peers found it quite challenging on the other hand. One of the advice I would absolutely recommend to pay heed to however is practice all the tutorial questions once they are available to you. Once you finish the lectures, try to set a particular timeframe within your timetable to practice those. This might seem trivial but I reassure you that it makes a whole lot of difference if you get used to the unit's contents right from the get go such that you can ask for help, rather than wait till the end of semester where other units' workload will hinder you from focusing on simple stuffs which you could have understood before - basically don't procrastinate with the unit. If you do that, the final exam will surely look relatively easy and you can easily score a more than average HD.

Watch the lectures. Take notes. Do all of the tutorial questions they set you. Start your assignments early. Write a unit summary based off your notes. Final exam is quite similar in format to the practice exams they will supply you with. If you just do the work (and understand it) it isn't that hard to crack a HD or even a 90+ for this unit.

This unit has a lot of theory in a small amount of time, and can be quite difficult straight out of VCE specialist, but overall I enjoyed the variety of the content. The exam was quite difficult because of the very limited formula sheet.

Be ready, this subject is fine and really well run, the lectures are engaging and my experience with the support classes were positive. However there is quite a bit of content covered and the problems they may give you in the exam can feel like you never even touched on that particular one. if you stay ontop of the work and up to speed week by week then you should have no worries!

Fairly straightforward coursework. As long as you keep up with the work, there shouldn't be many problems. The exam is a massive surprise, however, and to do well, you must be prepared for just about anything they can throw at you. All in all, well run, Leo is very engaging and his teaching style almost makes math fun.

Exam was in balanced and I felt myself not needed if 50% of the course content that I studied and there also needs to be a much better set out in the lecturers they were poorly executed and I didn’t feel like I learnt anything

Can be a bit of an overload at first as many new concepts are coming in left, right and centre. The tutorial questions are your best resource for practising, and it's important not to fall behind!
