Excellent introduction to a vast range of texts and genres. Gives you a good idea of what subjects you might like to pursue later in your English major. Most lecturers were incredibly engaging. The essays are a big step up from VCE, but once you master uni-level essay writing it's a lot of fun.

An interesting combination of literature and performance, however, it provided an excellent overview of both subjects. Very fast paced doing a text a week, if you like reading it's a benefit because all of the texts are interesting, however, it does take away from the analysis aspect of literature a little bit as you only study a text for one week. Tutorials were really laid back and very insightful, lectures were overall fairly engaging with the exception of the odd few that were a little tedious. While it departs from the VCE structure of literature in many ways, it is not all bad and definitely a worthwhile subject if you enjoy literature or performance. Assessments were a little vague at times. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable subject.

Loved the subject - hard to keep up with if the books don't have online summaries and you haven't read them as it is fast-paced, but lecturers were generally interesting and knowledgable. Tutorials were fantastic and really helpful, but make sure you speak up and voice your ideas to make full use of them.

Overall, an interesting subject, but a big jump from VCE literature/english in terms of essay writing. Hit and miss with the lecturers - some were incredible, others incredibly boring.
