I loved this subject! Lynda's wealth of knowledge made this subject what it is! It arguably has the best text list of any English subject I've taken, and introduced me to some of my favourite texts and some of the most formative authors to my degree. Be prepared for a very content heavy course! The text list is full of gems so you'll want to read them all! This became punishing towards week 12, so I recommend starting early and reading the large novels before teaching weeks begin, or making some hard choices and giving a couple weeks a miss. The lectures are fast paced and cover a lot of ground - I couldn't take everything in when I attended in person, but I still to recommend showing up when you can! I found revisiting the lecture recordings in the lead up to assignments pretty vital as they contained a lot of key information for research based essays. I had Lynda as my tutor and I found her classes a breath of fresh air! I LOVED that she focussed heavily on the craft of writing, rather than wholly on the content of the text we read that week. From memory, her classes were mostly 50:50 split - 45mins spent discussing the text, and 45mins dedicated to our writing skills. This was the first time since highschool where I spent a class focussed on improving the way in which I write: we learnt how to do a thing, instead of just learning about a thing. Her class was like a writing bootcamp, a crash course in postcolonial theory, and a demolition room for the colonial cannon! If you liked this subject, I recommend The Australian Imaginary, also taken by Lynda, and Critical Debates, taken by Elliot and Eloise!
