Primarily a discussion of feminism. each week presents a political dilemma and compares how each 'form' of feminism responds to it. the lecturer provides good resources - but doesnt offer much analysis of the topics and often goes off the content.... tutors are good quality. Difficult to score well in (as with any arts subject, its marked on a bellcurve) and it seems like you have to write in a very particular way to do well. Overall i probably wouldnt recommend this subject, but some people absolutely loved it

it will fuck up your WAM so bad. This is how everyone in my tutorial group felt despite putting in so much effort for the essays. the content is interesting but i have heard better things about the gender in IR subject

So interesting! The content was very relevant, and the class discussions were very respectful and engaging. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, my tutor- Alistair- was always happy to help. So so much freedom with the assignments, you will be able to find something you are really passionate about to write on. I wouldn’t say it’s difficult to do well, but make sure you have a thorough plan and have a strong political argument and analysis throughout. Overall a really good subject that I couldn’t recommend more.

This subject was incredible. Absolutely amazing. The content was relevant, lectures were thorough, and tutorials were highly engaging. Everybody got involved. Gemma was also exceptional - respectful, refreshing and really really lovely. I have never received essay feedback as extensive as hers, so much so that I actually make an effort to go back to my previous work in this subject to include the pointers she gave me. We also had the opportunity to take direction and initiative in our work. Hundreds and hundreds of essay questions were formulated, and if you didn't like any of those, you had the option to create your own. H1s are attainable if you put the time in and ASK QUESTIONS! It's the kind of subject you care about. I was sad that it ended.

Awesome - Lauren is a great lecturer, so engaging and very interesting to listen to. Gemma as a tutor is lovely and gives really in depth feedback. A great contemporary feminist subject, and literally endless essay topics to pick from so you can pick what really interests you to focus on. Only thing I will say is that it is really hard to do well in this subject. I was quite disappointed in my grades because I spent SO MUCH time and effort on my essays and felt that I was addressing all the criteria really well, but only got H2As

I was heartbroken when this subject went online because it’s genuinely the most fun and entertaining lecturing experience you’ll have. Lauren is awesome and the fact that she lets you choose/write whatever essay question you want is honestly amazing. Also, I really recommend some guys try this class! I took it as a guy and it was a little scary at first but everyone was super respectful and I learnt a lot.

This subject was previously called 'Sexual Politics' and is outstanding. Lauren is brilliant, hilarious and a fan-fucking-tastic lecturer. The tutor Gemma is engaged, kind, thoughtful and so intelligent. I would recommend this subject to anyone interested in feminist politics, and also to anyone majoring in politics in general, as it will be helpful in future politics subjects where you encounter feminist theory. It is enlightening and absolutely worthwhile. P.S. If you get Gemma as a tutor, she appreciates one-word sub-headings!
