Karol is a very smart guy but a terrible teacher / lecturer and bit of a prick. Also the bs assessment weighting is just because we were part of one of his many experiments source: https://isml.ecm.uwa.edu.au/ISML/Publication/pdfs/2015guzzomimillerEJoEEstudents.pdf

This unit's structure was very strange, to say the least. Firstly there are three lectures in a week, two of which are for teaching the content and the remaining one with student presentations about the past week's content. Attending these student-led lectures is made mandatory by a total of 10% weighted towards your participation and eventual own presentation. These lectures were on Friday, and were annoying for me because I only had one class that day. There were no tests throughout the semester for this unit, so the exam was made a pass/fail component. Entering the exam we found that there were only 3 questions for a total of 50 marks. So basically your success in this unit relies on getting 25 of these marks which is very stressful. I had a horrible experience doing this unit in large part due to the lecturer, Karol. His presentation style is very grating, as his lectures have a poor structure and he writes the lectures on sheets of paper and projects them to the screen, which is annoying if you prefer to take notes from Powerpoints. He also tends to be condescending and commonly says that any prerequisite content is "easy" and that he did it in either primary school or high school. He has also prevented anyone who did not attend the final lecture in person from receiving consultation before the exam, which is just blatantly unfair. He has hinted heavily that certain content would be on the exam, including one example problem from the workshops which he said nobody has been able to solve, but then there were no such problems on the exam at all. Good luck to anybody doing this unit out of necessity.

A challenging unit with a lot of content to learn. If not revised after each lecture it will be very hard at the of the semester to grasp the whole unit, so going to each lecture and taking notes greatly helps in this unit.

A challenging unit that requires independent learning on the student's part. Frequent engagement and asking questions from the tutors and lecturers is an absolute must.

One of challenging units to me. Got more understanding about mechanical engineering.
