Honestly if you are a hard worker and willing to put in the work this unit should be a breeze. Duc rewards people for showing that they care and want to learn how to value a company. As someone with industry experience in the equity research I can say that this unit does teach you the basics of valuation as well as it can in such a short time period. One thing I did not like is that Duc often makes you do things harder than they should be just so everything is to his liking. Overall if you have a look at the past years assignment examples and understand the marking rubric, the assignment won't be too difficult. Attend all lectures, consultations, and workshops (Yuyang Zhou is a great tutor). Talk to Duc about your assignment and ask for feedback at least 3 times across the semester. Spam the lecture example questions before the exam until you can do them with your eyes closed. If you have no experience in financial modelling I wouldn't expect a High Distinction in this unit but a Distinction is definitely possible. Good luck!

Warning, stay far away from this unit unless you're really into business valuation. Hardest unit I've done thus far including out of all my biomed units! Duc is a terrible lecturer. I felt like I learnt no content throughout the semester since all the lecturers are centred around how to approach the group project (which is a valuation of a particular company) but then again it's so open ended that there's not even a specific formula of going about doing it. However when it came to the marking of the project if it wasn't how he would have done it he would pretty much fail the group. He was telling us that he remarked the projects after the tutors marked them just to fail more people. Also the exam was so tough! Even after studying really hard for it, there were questions for content that had never been discussed before in class and people only knew how to answer by drawing on their knowledge from other commerce units which is so unfair. Overall a very miserable unit which will drain so much time and energy from you only to get a mid mark.

Lecture slides and content delivery very confusing, tutorials hard and not directly relevant to any assessment taks or what has bee taught in lectures. Big group project requires lots of effort but is good prep for the exam/practising what is being taught and if you understand everything in the group project you will be fine. Group project goes over 8 or so weeks, attend consultations to get feedback from Duc. You will eitgher score 75%+ or fail miserably as that is how Duc marks. Final exam is striaght forward and easy, just hard with time pressure. The content of final exam is explained in week 12 lecture and throught the semester Duc hands out worksheet problems in lectures with the final exam questions that aren't published or available anywhere so attend all lectures if possible

This unit had a very long group assignment that made you feel like you’d fail the unit throughout the semester... only for the exam to end up being straightforward and easy. I had Duc as both the Unit Coordinator and tutor. His lectures and explanations weren’t always easy to follow, and he can be a bit sharp in tone at times, but I think he’s quite generous with marking. I got 96 overall for the quizzes, and he rounded it up to 100. And again, the exam was easy.

The unit is interesting, and not recommended for those who not good at maths. The final exam was tricky and assignments as well

Make sure you get a good group for the assignment! Unit will be easy if you study the lecture notes do the workshop questions every week.

Enjoyable unit, applicable valuation models and quite theory dense. The calculations are quite basic. Make sure you get a good group as the assignment is a significant component and has a large weighting.

Interesting content, make sure you get a good group - majority of your marks go there. More theory than calcs but better than Investment Analysis.
